Architecture Career Guide: What Is a Design Strategist and How You Can Become One
By creating a design strategy based on a tactical approach we become more like consultants, working with the client to find the problem that needs to be solved. Instead of approaching the design process thinking only about deliverables, the strategic designer thinks about business objectives and outcomes (both theirs and the client’s). It’s important for designers to develop a tactical thinking approach to working with internal stakeholders. By doing so, the designer gains a better understanding of business objectives, user goals, and is able to translate these needs into meaningful design strategies and solutions. A strategic mindset helps designers develop a design strategy framework which contributes to improved client relationships and better user experiences, and aligns projects with business results. Design strategists focus on optimizing conversion rates and user engagement in digital platforms.

The new Carnival Jubilee is named after the original MS Jubilee, a Carnival cruise ship that was launched in the 1980s. You’ll find that this new ship is a big step up from its predecessor, though, with lots to do and family fun everywhere you look. A Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson mentioned a potential switch up in a few of the restaurants and/or entertainment venues, but, otherwise, they’re sticking to what they’ve already proven to do well with Norwegian Prima. MSC Euribia is the third of MSC Cruises’ Meraviglia Plus class, following MSC Grandiose and MSC Virtuosa. The beautiful (and big!) ship is not just filled with gorgeous spots to take in the views, inside and out, but also is an example of how cruising can be at least a little more eco-friendly.

Vista will initially sail in Europe before repositioning to North America for the winter. Fares start at $1,699 per person, not including taxes and fees, for a seven-night Caribbean voyage out of Miami. Oceania long has been known as a foodie's line, and Vista won't disappoint, with 12 different culinary options for passengers — four of which will be new concepts for the brand. The solo cabins, notably, also are concierge-level cabins, which means they come with access to a private keycard-accessed concierge lounge and complimentary use of the ship's Spa Terrace. In fact, every cabin on Vista will be a balcony cabin, as every cabin has either a full balcony or a more limited French balcony.

The ship will offer six “zones” in which you will be able to find a variety of fun activities. Bolt, the ultimate Sea Coaster, SkyRide, SportSquare, Waterworks, Ropes Course and Mini Golf. Artists were invited to enter a competition to create the artwork adorning the entire hull and Alex Flamig won with his striking marine-themed design reflecting the line’s commitment to the environment.

A polar-class vessel featuring a Polar Class 6 ice-strengthened hull, she will offer 5 Star accommodation for just 192 guests in 96 staterooms and suites. SS Diana will be equipped with two comfortable tenders instead of Zodiacs for expedition landings. Norwegian Cruise Line has proved it’s the clear leader when it comes to solo travelers. Even better, Norwegian's ships offer an exclusive studio for solo guests, where passengers can chat, grab snacks and get to know one another.
The vessel also will be home to a three-deck theater that converts into a Las Vegas-style nightclub and will host interactive, real-life game shows, including at-sea versions of "The Price Is Right." In addition to asymmetry in many areas, one thing that will be particularly noticeable about Silver Nova is its spaciousness. At 54,700 tons, the ship will be about 34% bigger than the line's last three new vessels — Silver Muse, Silver Moon and Silver Dawn.
Virgin Voyages has blasted away the competition by providing a naturally inclusive cruise where LGBTQ+ people are visible from the moment you board. You'll find the latter openly dancing on dance floors, kissing and hugging in bars, and holding hands over dinner. Nearly every cruise line offers a high standard of onboard service, but Holland America Line’s gracious crewmembers craft something truly special. Service is thoughtful and casually personal, with crewmembers remembering names and preferences. The genuine care and thought put in by each crewmember is what keeps Holland America’s loyal passengers coming back – and it’s exactly that atmosphere that keeps crews coming back year after year, too.

To whet your appetite for cruising in the year ahead, take a look at our list of the nine new cruise ships arriving in 2023 that have us the most excited. Icon of the Seas, which will be the biggest cruise ship in the world when it debuts, is now scheduled to sail with paying passengers for the first time in January 2024. Among them are the first ship from MSC Group‘s luxury cruise line Explora Journeys, Carnival Cruise Line‘s third Excel-class ship, and Celebrity‘s fourth Edge-class vessel. In addition to having a huge number of staterooms and suites to pick from, on this ship, you’ll also have a wide array of restaurants and bars to pick between, as you plan your itinerary.
Carnival is known for ships that feel like a theme park at sea, and after releasing the likes of Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, the bar is set pretty high for their 2023 new cruise ship. Celebrity Cruises starts out our list of new ships in 2023 with the 4th ship in their acclaimed Edge series, Celebrity Ascent. This new ship takes the outward-facing design to a whole new level to better connect its passengers to the sights and the scenery out on the open sea. Slated to set out on its maiden voyage in the fall, it will be heading out to the Caribbean for its first run. Get ready to indulge in some amazing cuisine as good as anything you’ll find on land, with a whopping 32 different restaurants, bars, and lounges for you to sink your teeth into. Viking Saturn will be practically identical to her sister ships, exuding the same sophisticated charm, with high-end Scandi design.
Virgin Voyages is light-years ahead of the pack when it comes to cruise entertainment. Instead, Virgin scouts acts from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and works with underground theaters in NYC to create something all-new at sea. Intimate venues quite literally immerse passengers in some shows, and the effortlessly diverse casts further the line's come-as-you-are ethos. Expect drag queens, Greek mythology, existential gameshows and quite a bit of skin. Virgin perfected onboard entertainment in 2023, introducing fresh, eye-popping shows like Lola's Library and Persephone. The ship's 2023 Eastern Mediterranean itineraries match its beachy vibe, and the detox-retox atmosphere carries over to ports like Santorini and Mykonos, thanks to exceptionally generous shore time.
Coming in September 2023, Seabourn Pursuit combines the luxury of a Seabourn ocean cruise ship with the adventurous spirit of an expedition ship. Think PC6 Polar Class standards and advanced technology to get to remote regions, as well as two submarines that add underwater exploration to the things you can do above water, such as Zodiac tours and kayaking. On Seven Seas Grandeur, Regent is aiming to fight sister line Oceania's claim for top marks among foodies. The ship will have four restaurants and debut a new version of Compass Rose, the ship's main dining room.
Seabourn Cruise Line will be another in 2023 to double up on its adventure yachts when Seabourn Pursuit sets sail in September. Mirroring the design of Seabourn Venture, the luxury ship will embark on expeditions from the Arctic to Antarctica and remote destinations in between. The line’s third Meraviglia Plus-class ship will be its second LNG-powered vessel and first from the company to display hull art.
Viking also has a new ocean ship coming in 2023 that is a sister to earlier vessels. After an initial transatlantic voyage from Southampton, England, to Galveston, Texas, Carnival Jubilee will sail seven-night voyages to the Western Caribbean out of Galveston. Like the last new Edge-class ship, the 8-month-old Celebrity Beyond, it'll be a stretched version of the two initial ships in the series (Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex), being both 20 meters longer and a deck taller.
Another noteworthy feature is Category 6, which will be the largest waterpark at sea when Icon of the Seas sets sail. “There’s also a greater space ratio onboard, allowing for less crowding and more space for guests to spread out and enjoy,” she says. There will also be new restaurant designs, which will include their popular Prime 7 steakhouse and French Chartreuse. Second in Norwegian’s Prima Class cruise ships, Viva will be the 19th ship in the NCL fleet.
